Les transports
Noël CORBIN, installé à Groussay, assurait les transports et les déménagements avec son cheval et un plateau à ridelles. Son chien suivait. Entre deux courses, il faisait le rebouteux dans l’arrière-salle des cafés.
Souvent, c’était son cheval qui le ramenait à son domicile…
A la gare de marchandises, la Maison Gaillard, reprise ensuite par Monsieur Christy, également déménageur, assurait les livraisons des particuliers et des commerçants avec une charrette à cheval.
La Maison Targe (charron, carrossier, réparateur et fabricant de fiacres, calèches, carrioles, chars à bancs) et la Maison Gaillard transportaient les gens à partir de la gare de Rambouillet.
Elles utilisaient des fiacres pour la ville et des omnibus de 12 à 15 places, tirés par des chevaux, pour les petites communes environnantes.
Les cars Citroën.
Dans les années 30, la Société Citroën a mis en place un service régulier de cars sur des moyennes distances pour permettre aux personnes de voyager sur des parcours non desservis par les chemins de fer.
A Rambouillet, une halte était prévue Place de la Libération (à l’époque Place d’Armes) sur la ligne Paris-Porte Maillot / Chartres / Tours. Ce service a cessé au début de la seconde guerre mondiale.
A Rambouillet, la C.G.E.A., dont le siège principal était à Saint-Germain-en-Laye, avait des autobus qui desservaient les communes environnantes.
Les bureaux et le dépôt étaient situés rue Sadi Carnot face à la station Shell.
Le ramassage des ordures
Les éboueurs ou boueux (ce terme était davantage employé à Rambouillet) ramassaient les ordures avec un tombereau, c’est-à-dire une charrette à deux roues dont les quatre côtés étaient entourés de ridelles. L’arrière basculait pour décharger les immondices.
Il y avait deux hommes : le premier, debout sur le tombereau, tenait les rennes du cheval et tassait les déchets avec ses pieds, tandis que le second suivait à pied et vidait les poubelles dans le tombereau.
Le permis de conduire (fin XIXe début XXe siècles)
Après s’être fait inscrire, il fallait se présenter avec son propre véhicule Place de la Gare devant l’inspecteur, ingénieur des mines. Ce dernier comptait les inscrits et donnait le départ vers Épernon. Il fallait rejoindre le poteau d’Eure-et-Loir.
Les candidats qui y parvenaient « avaient le permis », les autres étaient recalés. C’était alors le permis de conduire des véhicules à pétrole.
La Duchesse d’Uzès a été la première femme en France à passer le permis de conduire.
Les entreprises:
La maison Deneux, marchand de charbon, livrait encore pendant la guerre 39-45 ses sacs avec une voiture à cheval.
La Maison Chastang avait des fardiers tirés par des chevaux, généralement des percherons, pour débarder des billes de bois en forêt.
Les débardeurs traversaient la ville à la nuit tombante pour livrer les grumes de bois dans les deux scieries rambolitaines : Béhague ou Morin Yvernaud.
Toutes les entreprises de couverture, plomberie, maçonnerie se rendaient sur les chantiers en voiture à bras sur lesquelles les ouvriers chargeaient le matériel et les outils..
On mettait les apprentis dans les brancards, ils tiraient la voiture tandis que le ou les compagnons « poussaient au cul » (comme on disait à l’époque). Dans les années 30, il y avait encore beaucoup de ces voitures dans les entreprises Aube, Biaise, Houze et Gondran.
Le carton repas « rambolitain »
Avant de partir en excursion et après avoir loué un fiacre à la gare, si vous voulez vous approvisionner, allez au n°2 de la rue du Petit Parc où se trouve la charcuterie André Dubois, téléphone 60.
Vous pourrez acheter un carton repas « rambolitain » pour 2F50. La publicité du guide édité par A. Douchin de l’imprimerie de l’Indépendant, en précise le contenu :
- · 1 serviette, 1 assiette, 1 fourchette, 1 couteau, 1 verre,
- · 1 tire-bouchon, 1 cure-dents, 1/2 bouteille de vin blanc,
- · 1/2 bouteille d’eau minérale, 1 hors d’œuvre, 2 œufs durs,
- · 1 plat de viande, 2 desserts.
Le « petit monde » de Rambouillet
Rue Gambetta, en face de l’école de filles, Monsieur Ducand tenait une laiterie crémerie. Il faisait sa tournée journalière en ville pour vendre son lait avec une très belle voiture hippomobile rayée de barres verticales noires et jaunes, dotée de lanternes en cuivre rutilant. Les harnais de son cheval étaient astiqués.
Son attelage était superbe et ses petits cœurs à la crème délicieux.
Il appelait ses clients avec une petite trompe.
La Mère André qui logeait quai de l’Étang à Groussay faisait la chine avec un tricycle en criant : « Peaux de lapin ! Peaux ! ».
C’est à vélo que le Père Payent faisait la chine des peaux de lapin. Licencié en droit ou lettres, il s’arrêtait volontiers dans les cafés pour déclamer des textes classiques.
Le Père Piton faisait lui aussi du porte à porte en vélo, dans la campagne et dans les fermes environnantes, pour vendre des vêtements de travail, en chantant des romances et des chansons paillardes.
A Groussay, la Mère Bonhomme chinait les peaux de lapins, les vieux chiffons et les débarras avec une charrette tirée par un âne.
Quant à Monsieur Caschelin, rétameur, il faisait en triporteur le tour des fermes et des restaurants pour exercer son métier.
Le Comte Potocki
La calèche du Comte Potocki était attelée de cinq chevaux de robe différente avec à l’arrière deux sonneurs de trompette.
Lorsque le Comte, propriétaire du château de La Grange Colombe, traversait la ville, son passage était un événement. Ma grand-mère disait : « Écoutez les enfants, c’est Potocki qui passe ».
Le docteur Bergonier (en 1928)
A l’âge de 5 ans, lorsque je me rendais à l’école au cours privé Levieux, rue Lachaux, dirigé par Mademoiselle Ribet, je passais tous les jours devant la maison du Docteur Bergonier.
Son cabinet médical se trouvait à droite de sa maison dans la cour derrière la grille (cette porte d’entrée a dernièrement été obturée).
Son chauffeur Jean préparait la C4 Citroën, conduite intérieure, qui lui permettait de faire ses visites à domicile.
Le Docteur ne conduisait pas sa voiture : il était handicapé suite à un accident survenu en gare de Rambouillet, Voulant prendre le train déjà en marche, il a glissé et il a perdu une jambe. Il a pourtant eu la force et le courage de se faire un garrot lui-même.
En chapeau haut-de-forme et jaquette, le Docteur Bergonier visitait les malades, dans les quartiers défavorisés, entre autres « La Pologne » (quartier Groussay). Il oubliait souvent de réclamer ses honoraires.
Avant d’avoir une automobile, il avait eu un cheval et par temps de neige ou de verglas, il entourait les sabots de son cheval de chiffons pour pouvoir assurer ses visites.

Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids.
