Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 introduit en Europe dans le milieu du XIX\u00e8me si\u00e8cle. C\u2019est une esp\u00e8ce foresti\u00e8re et ornementale gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 ses longues aiguilles et ses jeunes rameaux pendants. Il en existe plusieurs vari\u00e9t\u00e9s\u00a0: argentea (argent\u00e9),aurea (dor\u00e9),pendula (pleureur) robusta (robuste et \u00e0 longues aiguilles). Les cultivars dor\u00e9s et pleureurs sont les plus appr\u00e9ci\u00e9s mais ils sont rares \u00e0 Rambouillet.<\/p>\nIl existe aussi un c\u00e8dre bleu pleureur (<i>Cedrus atlantica<\/i> &lsquo;Glauca Pendula&rsquo; ) dont le premier individu a \u00e9t\u00e9 produit \u00e0 l&rsquo;arboretum de la Vall\u00e9e-aux-Loups.\n\nC&rsquo;est une esp\u00e8ce foresti\u00e8re donnant du bois de bonne qualit\u00e9 et poussant bien dans les climats temp\u00e9r\u00e9s.
